Volunteer
Thank you for your interest in joining our volunteer team! We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, ages, and skill levels to support our mission. Here are a few helpful details to consider as you begin this rewarding journey.
Age Requirements
-
18 and Up: Volunteers can independently complete all activities.
-
16-17-Year-Olds: With a signed liability waiver, 16-17-year-olds are welcome to volunteer! A trained volunteer who has attended orientation their child. Please note, most volunteer activities require a minimum age of 16, especially tasks like dog walking, and children under 16 need to be supervised at all times. The shelter environment might differ from what young children expect, as we do not have designated puppy or kitten rooms.
Animal Care Opportunities:
Dog Walking: Many of our shelter dogs are medium to extra-large in size with lots of energy. Walking these dogs is a great way to get active, but it requires strength, balance, and stamina, as they may pull on the leash. Those comfortable with handling larger, energetic dogs are encouraged to participate!
Cat Care: If you’re a cat lover, our busiest time is during "kitten season"—late spring through early fall—when we receive an influx of cats and kittens needing care. From November to May, we generally have fewer cats, which may mean fewer cat-focused volunteer opportunities.
Non-Animal-Related Volunteer Roles
We also have essential roles beyond animal care that are perfect for volunteers interested in supporting our shelter behind the scenes:
Shelter Assistance: Support our team with hands-on tasks such as assembling adoption packets, sorting donations, helping with laundry, and keeping supplies organized.
Clinic Support: Help our clinic team with non-medical tasks, including preparing materials, cleaning, and organizing supplies.
Event Assistance: We frequently host adoption events and community outreach opportunities. Volunteers can help with setup, greet attendees, provide information about the shelter pets, and assist with cleanup.
These roles are vital to our daily operations and offer a great way to get involved if you’re looking to help in a non-animal capacity.
No matter your experience level, there’s a place for you here, and we’re excited to welcome you to the team!
To get started, please create an account with Better Impact/My Impact using the link below. Once you complete your application and review our policies, you’ll receive an email with instructions on setting up a guided walkthrough appointment. During this time, we’ll review volunteer roles and have you sign any necessary liability waivers.
We look forward to meeting you and making a difference together!
