Montgomery County Animal Shelter is beyond over capacity. We are asking for all hands on deck. That means we are looking for adopters and fosters, but we are also hoping that those of you who need to surrender your pet might consider a different option: rehoming your dog or cat on your own on Adopt-a-Pet.com.
Rehoming your pet should be easy and stress free both for you and your pet. Our experts at Adopt-a-Pet.com, the largest non-profit pet adoption website, with support from The Petco Foundation, have created a simple, reliable, free program to help you place your pet from your loving home directly to another.
As always, the shelter is here for the community and is still receiving animals. We simply wanted to make sure everyone was aware of this free service. We hope this program will keep more pets out of our already over-crowded shelter.

Create A Pet Profile - Onboard your pet on Rehome in about 10 minutes. Once complete, Rehome will post your pet on Adopt-A-Pet.com to be seen by millions of visitors each month.
Review Applications - Soon you will receive applications from interested adopters. Our dedicated team will give you all the help you need to select the best potential adopters and rehome your pet.
Meet Adopters - We’ll guide you through the process of setting safe and pressure-free meetings with potential adopters.
Finalize Adoption - We’ll provide you with an adoption contract to protect the transfer of your pet ownership. Once complete your pet will have a new loving forever home.
